Alatalo Home Concepts is an insured, LLC remodeling contractor located in Iowa City, Iowa. We believe in delivering a high quality product to our clients while communicating effectively and making our customers confident in bringing their vision into reality.
REMODELING
We specialize in kitchens and bathrooms. Other projects have included finishing basements, building out additions, and adding conforming bedrooms. Projects have included: Tiling, hardwood flooring, custom cabinetry, and more.
WOODWORK
Do you want doors built, a built-in bookshelf or entertainment center, or custom cabinetry to elevate your kitchen or bath remodel? Our shop space enables us to build custom pieces to fit your aesthetic and make the project special.
FINISH CARPENTRY
Finish carpentry encompasses all work done inside a house after framing, sheathing, wiring, plumbing, insulation and drywall have been installed. This includes door and window installation and trim, fitting interior doors, wood and laminate flooring installation, wainscoting, crown molding and cabinet installation.

John Alatalo
Residential Contractor
I have always been the guy who keeps learning and improving my skills in all areas of my life. I graduated from the University of Iowa and began teaching in the public school system in 1st and 4th grade. After four years in the classroom and moonlighting as a woodworker building custom pieces for libraries, residential homes, and my own family, my dream started forming. From there, I dove into commercial mechanical contracting as an estimator and joined the team of a local carpentry contractor to hone my trade. Always the learner, I dedicate a great deal of energy to improving my skills by keeping up on new technology, investing in tools, and networking with other residential contractors like myself. My wife, Katie and I have two young boys, a dog, and a dozen chickens.
